RAU and UCLA Establish Cooperation
 
Russian-Armenian University and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set the basis for a unique academic and educational collaboration.
 
On May 25 – June 11, Head of RAU Department of Armenian Language and Literature Prof. Azat Yeghiazaryan visited the University of California, Los Angeles as a representative of Russian-Armenian University to sign the document and discuss ways of collaboration.
 
There Prof. Azat Yeghiazaryan read a lecture on Contemporary Armenian Prose for the students of UCLA. He also met with the UCLA professors of the Armenian language, Director of the Armenian Studies program within the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Prof. Peter Cowe and Dean of Humanities David Schaberg, Ph.D.
 
Following the meeting, the sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The terms of the MoU include the development of such activities as visits and informal exchanges of faculty, scholars and administrators in specific areas of education, research and outreach, cooperation in postgraduate education and training, organization of joint conferences and other scientific events.
 
The MoU also encompasses exchange of academic information and materials and pursuit of avenues for graduate and professional student exchange during the academic year or summer terms.
 
Commenting on the agreement, Prof. Azat Yeghiazaryan highlighted that it established a legal framework for effective collaboration, “The cooperation between RAU and UCLA is now institutionalized. Among the immediate priorities is humanities, but we also plan to collaborate in technology and biology”.
 
To supervise the abovementioned activities, both sides have appointed local coordinators - the Coordinator at RAU is Head of the Department of Armenian Language and Literature Prof. Azat Yeghiazaryan, while UCLA Coordinator is Director of the Armenian Studies program within the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures Prof. Peter Cowe.
 
The MoU becomes effective when signed by both parties and will remain in effect for five years from the signature date.
 
Russian-Armenian University and University of California, Los Angeles jointly with Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences have previously organized an international conference 'The Armenian Epos and the International Epic Heritage'. Read more >>
