Bioinformatics and Bioengineering are rapidly developing interdisciplinary branches of life sciences that emerged on the basis of biology, mathematics, chemistry, physics and computer science.
There has been accumulated a huge amount of data on human genome mapping, identification of population and individual characteristics of the genome as well as on specificity of regulatory mechanisms of metabolic reactions and their alterations. This leads to the need of highly qualified specialists for the development of novel high throughout analytic approaches and efficient usage of existing theoretical data in the field of prophylactics and early diagnostics, drug toxicity, individual response and frequency of side effect development.
In response to the current demands in Bioinformatics and Bioengineering, Russian-Armenian University and the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) of the RA National Academy of Sciences united efforts to create a joint research Department of Bioengineering, Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology.
The Department aims to combine the innovative potential of RAU and IMB to prepare highly-qualified professionals and offers further trainings for specialists in the priority areas based on innovative approaches in molecular and cellular biology and bioinformatics. Also, the mission of the Department is to integrate the resources and capacities of academia and science centers and thus adding a research component to the university’s education process.
