The First CESAI Conference on Afghan Studies Launched at RAU


 
On June 26, The First CESAI Conference on Afghan Studies was launched at Russian-Armenian University. The Conference gathered leading scholars in the field from France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, UK and the U.S. 
 
RAU Vice-Rector for Science Professor Pargev Avetisyan and Dr. Vahe Boyajian, Organising Committee Secretary and lecturer at RAU, greeted the conference guests. Prof. Avetisyan highlighted that the Conference was a significant scientific event in the context of development of Oriental Studies both at Russian-Armenian University and in Armenia, in general.
 
Director of RAU Institute of Oriental Studies Professor Garnik Asatryan in his turn highlighted, “The First CESAI Conference on Afghan Studies is in fact the first scholarly gathering dedicated to Afghan issues in Armenia. Afghan Studies present high interest for the Armenian scholarship. We at the Institute of oriental Studies actively promote scholarly papers on Afghan Studies in the journal Iran and the Caucasus”.
 
The Conference will embrace six panels: Interaction between State and non-State Actors throughout Afghan History, Afghan Studies from the Perspective of Mobility and Entanglements, The Common and Peculiar in Afghan Polities and Politics, Antiquity, Archaeology, Arts and Literatures, Centre-Peripheries Relations and Cultural Encounters in Afghan History, Centre-Peripheries Relations and Cultural Encounters in Afghan History and go on for three days.
 
Dr Sergei Andreyev, CESAI President also delivered opening remarks, “We look forward to fascinating exchange of ideas and discussions during The First CESAI Conference on Afghan Studies. The purpose of the Conference is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the scholarly discussion on a broad range of Afghan Studies not limited to the scholarship on this eponymous country but also dealing with Afghanistan’s environs comprising a unique liminal region between the Iranian world, Turkic Central Asia and South Asia that may be described in terms of the Afghan trans-boundary cultural and linguistic oecumene”.
 
The event is organized by The Scholarly Association for International Studies of Afghanistan jointly with RAU Institute of Oriental Studies, Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography at the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Institute of Autochthonous Peoples of the Caucasian-Caspian Region and the ARMACAD platform.
 
Following the conference, relevant papers will be published in Iran and the Caucasus, a leading international scientific journal on Oriental Studies issued in the Netherlands and reviewed by Head of RAU Institute of Oriental Studies Prof. Garnik Asatryan.
