Lecture Room Honoring Prof. Garnik Karapetyan Opened at RAU
On February 4, Russian-Armenian University hosted the opening ceremony of a lecture room honoring the renowned mathematician, late Professor Garnik A. Karapetyan. The lecture room was opened on professor’s birthday. Among the attendees were his colleagues, relatives, friends and students.
Professor Garnik Karapetyan, D.Sc., Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at Russian-Armenian University, Distinguished Professor of Russian-Armenian University, died on November 29, 2018.
“Professor Garnik Karapetyan lived for his work”, highlighted RAU Rector, Professor Armen Darbinyan. “The best way to value a teacher’s work is to see gratitude among their students, and Professor Karapetyan had thousands of grateful students who will carry the memory of him forever in their hearts”.
Professor Karapetyan several generations undergraduate and graduate students at Russian-Armenian University. He has worked at RAU for more than 15 years, the majority of which he was Head of RAU Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling, as well as Deputy Director of the Institute of Mathematics and High Technologies of the RAU.
Professor Karapetyan authored textbooks, teaching materials, research articles; he was widely recognized in the international scholar community; the wider public knew him through the series of educational programs for school students “Open Lesson”, which ran on the H1 Public TV Company of Armenia. His research interests covered differential equations, elliptic and hyperelliptic equations. He was recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including the Armenian state award The Medal of Anania Shirakatsi and The Gold Medal of Russian-Armenian University.
