Meeting with Mentor Graphics Sr. Engineering Director Sarala Paliwal
On March 14, Sarala Paliwal, Senior Engineering Director at Mentor Graphics, A Siemens Business, U.S., Irina Dumanyan, CEO of Mentor Graphics Armenian Office, and Sedrak Sargsyan, R&D Director and R&D Executive at Mentor Graphics Armenian Office, visited Russian-Armenian University. At RAU, they met with the executives of the Institute of Economics and Business and the Institute of Oriental Studies and led a discussion concerning the IT sector developments and strategies in India.
Sarala Paliwal is originally from India; however, her career evolved in the U.S., where she carried out various managing roles in IT industry, including at IBM. At Mentor Graphics, Portland, U.S. she is in charge of Production Engineering and Extraction R&D.
During the meeting, the guests and RAU academic staff discussed trends in education in the fields of economics and tech, startup development from the educational and business perspectives, compared practices in India, U.S. and Armenia.
Professor Edward Sandoyan and Associate Professor Davit Sahakyan presented RAU graduate academic programs created at the intersection of fields - IT in Economics and Big Data Analysis, and shared their experience in educating the next generation of entrepreneurs. Professor Garnik Asatryan and Victoria Arakelova, D.Sc. in their turn told the guests about the increasing research activity in Indology and other areas at the university.
Ms. Saliwal highlighted that for the past several years she witnessed positive changes in the development of the Indian tech sector, “More people now choose to stay and study, as well as start their career in India, instead of going, for example, to the U.S.” Changes are manifest in the attitudes in society, as well - startup culture is booming there.
