RAU “Genetic Engineering and 3rd Generation Sequencing Center of Excellence" Received New Equipment
On June 3, Genetic Engineering and 3rd Generation Sequencing Center of Excellence of the Institute of Biomedicine and Pharmacy at RAU received the first batch of new equipment to support hands-on education and student research in molecular biology and genetics.
According to Roksana Zakharyan, Ph.D., Head of RAU Department of Bioengineering, Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology, the equipment will allow to carry out genetic research on-site and to ensure that research samples and materials are stored in proper conditions. Necessary laboratory furniture and stationery have been purchased, as well.
She also mentioned that additional equipment and materials will be further purchased to ensure proper conditions for research and education. Recently, RAU has received additional equipment and supplies for biomedical research from the U.S. in the framework of an in-kind contribution of Russian-Armenian University.
Within the Armenian "Education Improvement" project Support for the Development of Competitive Innovation Fund, Russian-Armenian University is implementing a grant program “Educational and Scientific Center of Excellence in Genetic Engineering, Genome Editing and 3rd Generation Sequencing”, which was launched in 2019. The main goal of the program is to establish a new center of genetic engineering, genome editing, and sequencing with the focus on both research and education.
The ''Education Improvement" program is aimed at establishing an educational system providing services in line with best international standards, at creation of equal conditions for learning for all social groups and at the promotion of scientific and research activities. The "Education Improvement" program is aimed to establish and expand the results of second-generation reforms in general education, at the same time offering solutions for preschool, secondary and higher education quality and equality issues.
