RAU Students Winning Chinese Movie Dubbing Competition
RAU students majoring in Area Studies, Lilit Dallakyan, Elina Mkrtchyan, Inna Sargsyan and Anna Petrosyan won a Chinese Movie Dubbing Competition in Armenia. Inna Sargsyan also won an individual prize, participation in a youth camp in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia.
The task was not only to pick and dub a Chinese movie scene, but also stage it using acting skills. The participants staged a small performance in traditional costumes.
“During the scene, we had to speak the Beijing dialect. It was quite a challenge, because it required adjusting your voice and pronouncing the sounds flawlessly”, confided Lilit Dallakyan.
As the students mentioned, it is easier to show emotions in one’s native language - you know how to express surprise, fear, worry - but when you learn a foreign language, you discover them anew. In Chinese, for example, there are 4 tones, which are an essential part of proper pronunciation.
The team expressed sincere gratitude to their Chinese language instructors of Russian-Armenian University for their patient guidance. Their hard work resulted in winning the competition.
“We practiced almost every day. Once, we came to the lecture room to find that our instructor Han Laoshi had brought us coffee to cheer us up. He believed in our victory since the beginning, which helped a great deal – when we took the stage, there was no fear”, said Elina Mkrtchyan.
