Among the guests were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Armenia H.E. Mr. Kishan Dan Dewal, Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, Ph.D., as well as members of the National Assembly.
RAU Rector Professor Armen Darbinyan opened the event with words of appreciation, “Today is a special for the humanity. Today the humanity celebrates the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. I would like to read one of the quotes from Mahatma Gandhi for the young generation.

Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”
He also highlighted that Russian-Armenian University is ready to enhance the Armenian-Indian cooperation through University contacts - to cooperate within academia, industry, particularly the high-tech sector.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Armenia H.E. Mr. Kishan Dan Dewal in his turn addressed the audience and expressed his gratitude to Russian-Armenian University and its Rector Professor Darbinyan for hosting the wonderful event.
“Today we've gathered here to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the great son of India. October 2 is also the international Non-Violence Day, as declared by UN. Today’s generation confronts challenges, such as climate change, gender justice, terrorism. The philosophy and outlook of Mahatma Gandhi offer powerful tools to overcome them. I hope that Gandhi’s inspiration and relevance will live with us forever and ever,” said the Ambassador.
During the event, the guests paid their respects to Mahatma Gandhi. RAU Rector and Ambassador Dewal exchanged gifts, while the students of the Institute of Oriental Studies presented their reports about Gandhi in various languages.
The event was jointly organized by RAU Institute of Oriental Studies and Embassy of India to Armenia.
