Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan Delivered a Guest Lecture at RAU
On December 13, Russian-Armenian University hosted Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan with a guest lecture “The Role of Human Rights Defender in Improving the System of Human Rights Protection in Armenia”.
Arman Tatoyan presented a detailed review of the activities of the Ombudsman’s Office. According to Arman Tatoyan, the Ombudsman’s Office in Armenia has become a fully-developed institution and in 2018, the Armenian Institution of the Human Rights Defender was re-accredited with the highest “A” status by the Sub-Committee on Accreditation of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, which operates with the assistance of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The lecture was followed by a Q&A session, during which the students asked questions on the most pressing issues in the context of human rights protection, namely, the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, sex-selective abortion and prisoners' rights.
