Academician Yuri Oganesyan awarded the Honorary order of RAU

    The award was given for the world-wide recognized contribution to the development of natural science, for fundamental research into the interaction of complex nuclei and experimental confirmation of the hypothesis of the existence of "islands of stability" of superheavy elements, for the discovery of four new heavy elements of the periodic table.

    By the decision of the RAU Academic Council, the Scientific Director of the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia Yuri Tsolakovich Oganesyan was awarded the Honorary Order of the Russian-Armenian University. The award was given for the world-wide recognized contribution to the development of natural science, for fundamental research into the interaction of complex nuclei and experimental confirmation of the hypothesis of the existence of "islands of stability" of superheavy elements, for the discovery of four new heavy elements of the periodic table, including element N 118, named after the discoverer "Oganesson" (Og).

    The Honorary order of the Russian-Armenian University was presented to Academician Yuri Oganesyan by RAU Rector, Professor Armen Darbinyan on April 14 at a meeting at the RA National Academy of Sciences.

    “Of course we understand that this order does not elevate you as much as it elevates us. We want to be involved with you, with your activity, with your image of a great scientist”, - Professor Darbinyan emphasized.

    It should be noted that Russian-Armenian University established the Honorary order of RAU in order to confirm merits of most prominent figures of science, education, art, culture and literature, politics, and business, who have significantly contributed to the formation, consolidation, and development of relationship between RA and RF in various spheres of activity, to the consolidation of friendship between Russian and Armenian nations, as well as development of Russian-Armenian University as a center, heart of Russian education and culture in the Republic of Armenia and the region in whole.
