III Generation Center for Genetic Engineering, Genome Editing, and Sequencing opening at RAU

The project is being implemented under a grant from the Competitive Innovation Fund with the support of the World Bank.

On September 23, Russian-Armenian University hosted the opening of the scientific and Educational Center of Excellence in the field of genetic engineering, genome editing, and third-generation sequencing. The opening ceremony was attended by Vahram Dumanyan, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia; Karen Trchunyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports; Grisha Oganesyan, Acting Director of the Center for Educational Programs of the Ministry, RAU leadership and the Center's co-workers.

As Minister Vahram Dumanyan notes, higher education and science are one single entity; they cannot be considered separately: "The opening of such a laboratory can only be welcomed. It is a great achievement. The center is necessary for the educational process. We must implement such projects in all areas so that educational institutions are provided with laboratories, without which it is difficult to imagine the educational and research part".

The purpose of the program is to establish a scientific and educational center based on the Institute of Biomedicine and Pharmacy of RAU, which will promote cooperation between various universities, research institutes, and innovation centers, as well as training highly qualified competitive specialists in the innovative direction of genomics-genome editing, providing scientific and educational activities per modern developments in gene technologies, training graduates who meet the requirements of employers.

It should be noted that the project is being implemented under a grant from the Competitive Innovation Fund with the support of the World Bank.
