RAU Day 2026
The celebrations brought together members of the university’s academic community, alumni and friends, highlighting the continuity of RAU’s traditions and its new achievements.
The official celebrations marking Russian-Armenian University Day began on September 15 with a commemorative flower-laying ceremony. The event was attended by the RAU leadership and students, as well as representatives of the Embassy of Russia in Armenia and the Russian House in Armenia.
Participants paid tribute to the memory of RAU’s first rector, Academician Levon Mkrtchyan, and laid flowers at the monument dedicated to RAU students who lost their lives during the 44-day Artsakh War in 2020, as well as at the monument to Russian writer, playwright and diplomat Alexander Griboyedov.
As part of RAU Day, the Russian Language Scientific and Methodological Laboratory, jointly established by Armavir State Pedagogical University and RAU, was officially opened. The new inter-university center aims to strengthen cooperation between the two universities, advance pedagogical research and support Russian language teachers. Its activities will include teacher training, scientific and methodological projects, international competitions and student exchange programs.
RAU Rector Edward Sandoyan noted that one of the university’s key missions is to engage young people in a Russian-speaking educational and cultural environment, as well as to contribute to the development of academic and cultural ties between Armenia and Russia.
Another major event of the day was the opening of RAU’s Intensive Computing and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, equipped with NVIDIA H20 graphics accelerators. The new high-performance computing infrastructure is designed to support research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical modeling, physics, radio electronics, telecommunications, bioinformatics, economics and finance.
The new laboratory will also play an important role in training students and young professionals, contributing to the development of advanced technological fields at the university.
The celebrations also featured the opening of RAU Shop.
During the ceremonial session dedicated to RAU’s 29th anniversary, Rector Edward Sandoyan noted that the university had reached a historic high in its 2026 admissions, with
around 2,000 newly admitted students. According to him, the total number of students and learners at the university is approaching 6,300. The rector also highlighted the need to expand the university’s classroom capacity and further develop its infrastructure.

The ceremonial session included an awards ceremony honoring friends and staff members of the Russian-Armenian University.
One of the highlights of the celebration was the musical performance by the Armenian Eagles dhol ensemble, led by Artistic Director Samvel Khachatryan. Among the performers was Anastasia Sahakyan, an 11th-grade student at RAU’s Usmunk School.
