RAU Day 2021!

    "We celebrate this day annually, and every year we become stronger, higher, and more beautiful".

    The celebration of Russian-Armenian University Day took place on September 15. Various events were organized at the university on this day: a concert of the Let's Fly ensemble at RAU Thanksgiving Park, a solemn meeting at the House of Culture dedicated to RAU Day, as well as a lecture on "Environmental safety as a key factor of sustainable development" by Valery Petrosyan, Honorary Professor of Moscow State University, Academician, member of the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences, Honorary Doctor of RAU.

    According to the annual tradition a festive ceremony of awarding honorary rewards and medals of RAU was held in the University House of Culture, as part of the Russian-Armenian University Day celebration. During the event, the audience paid tribute to the memory of students who passed away during the war.

    "We celebrate this day annually, and every year we become stronger, higher, and more beautiful. We have experienced a catastrophically difficult 2020 on a global, national, and university scale", noted Professor Armen Darbinyan, RAU Rector. "We are the best university on the territory of the Republic of Armenia: we will preserve our dignity, defend our self-government, move along the planned path, and become a best University in the world. We will reach new heights, despite all the difficulties awaiting us on this path".

    In 2021 the global scientific and medical community celebrated the anniversary of Professor Bagrat Alekyan, Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director for Science and Innovative Technologies, Head of the Center for X-Ray Endovascular Surgery of Vishnevsky National Medical Research Center for Surgery. Russian-Armenian University has decided to award Bagrat Geghamovich with a special RAU Award "Olive branch with diamonds" for his significant contribution to the development of medicine and many years of fruitful humanitarian activity.

    Alexey Maslov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Director of the Institute of the Far East of Russian Academy of Sciences was elected Honorary Doctor of RAU by the resolution of the Academic Council of the Russian-Armenian University. Alexey Alexandrovich was awarded this title for his contribution to the Oriental studies development, spiritual and cultural traditions study, as well as modern socio-economic and political processes in East countries.

    The Academic Council of RAU elected Ruben Harutchyan, Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Associate Professor of the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia as an Honorary Doctor for the great contribution to the culture of Armenia, for the high civic position and dedication to the ideas of humanism.

    Valery Petrosyan, Doctor of Chemistry, Honorable Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Academician, member of the Presidium of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, became an Honorary Doctor of Russian-Armenian University for his great science contribution in the field of ecology and sustainable development. 

    During the solemn meeting, the laureates were honored in the "Person of the Year of RAU 2021" nomination, established by RAU:
    •    "Person of the Year" in the field of medicine - Zinaida Marutyan, Candidate of Medical Sciences, doctor of the highest category, anesthesiologist-resuscitator of the Moscow Clinical Hospital № 52. In 2020, she came to Armenia and Artsakh multiple times providing invaluable assistance in the treatment of covid patients, and saving lives of our Motherland defenders during the war;
    •    "RAU Person of the Year" in the field of science (for outstanding achievements in the field of high–energy astrophysics) - Felix Aharonian, foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Academician of the Royal Academy of Ireland, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, winner of numerous international scientific awards and prizes;
    •    "Person of the Year" in the field of music – Hayk Melikyan, famous pianist, composer, Honored Artist of Armenia, laureate of many international competitions, musician regularly performing on the most premium stages of the world, making an invaluable contribution to the promotion of Armenian and world contemporary music;
    •    "Person of the Year" in the field of painting – Tigran Dzitokhtsyan, artist whose first solo exhibition took place at the age of 10 (and since that time he has been named Armenian Salvador Dali). Today Tigran Dzitokhtsyan is a well-known artist working in the genre of hyperrealism, whose oeuvres are highly appreciated on every continent;
    •    "Person of the Year" in the field of sports – Armenian boxer Hovhannes Bachkov, champion of the 2019 European Games, European champion, 2017 and 2019 World Championships, and the 2020 and 2021 Olympic Games bronze medalist. Rudik Mkrtchyan is the personal trainer of Hovhannes Bachkov. 
     
    In light of the anniversary in 2021, the Academic Council of the University awarded a "RAU Gold Medal" to:                                 
    •    Asya Berberyan, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor, Head of the Psychology Department of RAU;
    •    Evgenia Manasyan, Deputy Director of the Center for Pre-University Education of RAU;
    •    Zhirayr Aramyan, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and Business of RAU.
     
    "The Honored Professors of RAU 2021" are the following։
    •    Rafik Aramyan, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Mathematical Cybernetics;
    •    Vladimir Oganesyan, Doctor of Law, Professor, Acting Head of the Department of International and European Law.
     
    The "Honorary Professor of RAU" nomination was awarded to:
    •    Mikhail Golovnin, Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Economics, Professor, First Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics of Russian Academy of Sciences;
    •    Oleg Ivanov, Vice President of Alfa Bank, Co-Chairman of the Investment Banking Products Committee of the Association of Banks of Russia.
     
    Karen Markarian, well-known as Mark Aren, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Director of the Global Economy Research Institute (Moscow), Chairman of the Union of Employers of Armenia, became the "Honorary Gentleman/Chevalier of RAU Club Friends".

    Anahit Tadevosyan, Candidate of Philology, Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Russian and World Literature and Culture, and Lilit Dallakyan, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Theory of Law and Constitutional Law were recognized as the "Best Teachers of the Year".

    Ani Avetisyan, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor, Chief Specialist of the Department of Science, and Head of the Department of RAU was awarded the title of "The Best Administrative Employee of RAU".

    Tigran Petrosyan, a 2008 RAU alumnus, currently an entrepreneur, co-founder of the Sevan Startup Summit project, member of several closed business clubs, founder of the Startup Embassy in Russia, was awarded in "Success Story" nomination. For more than 8 years, he has been supporting startups both in Armenia and abroad.

    Artyom Martirosyan, a RAU alumnus, was awarded the "For Loyalty to the Traditions of RAU" nomination making a unique gift to his beloved university – he raised the Flag of RAU on the top of Ararat. 

    The Sardaryan family has been declared the "Family of the Year": RAU occupies a special place in the fate of every of its young and old members.

    Mher Mkrtchyan ("Physics of semiconductors", third-year student) became a winner in the nomination "The Best RAU PG Student". Juliet Tumoyan (Institute of Biomedicine and Pharmacy), Inessa Bardakchyan (Institute of Humanities), Ruben Nazaryan (Institute of Humanities), Liana Galoyan (Institute of Humanities), Levon Khachatryan (Institute of Engineering and Physics), Nonna Petrosyan (Institute of Humanities), Edgar Vardanyan (Institute of Mathematics and Informatics), Arman Fagradyan (Institute of Mathematics and Informatics), Marianna Torosyan (Institute of Media, Advertising and Cinema), Lucy Petrosyan (Institute of Media, Advertising and Cinema), David Sargsyan (Institute of Law and Politics), Tatevik Nersisyan (Institute of Law and Politics, Armenian Sector), Rima Yeghiazaryan (Institute of Law and Politics), Georgy Melkonyan (Institute of Economics and Business) and Zinavard Papyan (Institute of Economics and Business) became "The Best Students of the Year".

    It should be noted that Russian-Armenian University was established on the basis of the "Agreement between the Government of Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Armenia on the conditions for the establishment and operation of Russian-Armenian University in Yerevan", signed in 1997 in Moscow.
