Armenian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Delivers Masterclass at RAU on Regional Diplomacy

The event was held as part of the Ambassador Meetings series.

A masterclass entitled “Armenia’s Regional Diplomacy: Features and Realities” was held at the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) on October 14 as part of the Ambassador Meetings series. The speaker was Arsen Avagyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Turkmenistan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Professor at RAU’s Department of World Politics and International Relations.

During the meeting, participants discussed the key priorities of Armenia’s regional diplomacy and the transformation of the country’s foreign policy, including the shift from irredentism to realpolitik — a policy approach based on a pragmatic assessment of international realities and national interests.

Particular attention was paid to the specifics of diplomatic work in countries with authoritarian political systems, as well as to the practical aspects of building interstate dialogue amid contemporary regional challenges and geopolitical changes.

As Nora Gevorgyan, Head of RAU’s Department of World Politics and International Relations and Associate Professor, noted, the Ambassador Meetings series aims to give students an opportunity to hear countries’ perspectives firsthand, apply their theoretical knowledge of diplomacy, world politics, and regional studies to the analysis of real-world international cases, develop diplomatic dialogue skills, and gain a deeper understanding of their future profession.

The event was organized by the Department of World Politics and International Relations of RAU’s Institute of International Relations and Social-Political Sciences.
