Second International Conference Anatolia-the-Caucasus-Iran held at RAU

    During the conference more than 80 scientists from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Iran, European countries and the USA presented reports on history, linguistics, culture, ethnography, and religions of the peoples of Anatolian-Caucasus-Iranian region.

    The Second International Conference Anatolia-the Caucasus-Iran was held at Russian-Armenian University from June 21 to 23. It was organized by RAU Institute of Oriental Studies jointly with Institute of Empirical Linguistics Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany). 

    The conference Anatolia-the Caucasus-Iran was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the international scientific journal Iran and the Caucasus (https://brill.com/view/journals/ic/ic-overview.xml), which is published in one of of the oldest academic publications of Europe, Dutch BRILL, edited by the director of RAU Institute of Oriental Studies, professor Garnik Asatryan. Iran and the Caucasus is a peer-reviewed multi-disciplinary journal that publishes materials on history, culture, linguistics, literature, folklore, social and cultural anthropology and political issues of the Iranian world, the Caucasus, Anatolia and beyond. The journal is published four times a year and is indexed in more than a dozen scientometric systems, including WoS and Scopus.

    The geography of speakers and participants was extensive. During the conference more than 80 scientists from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Iran, European countries and the USA presented reports on history, linguistics, culture, ethnography, and religions of the peoples of Anatolian-Caucasus-Iranian region. The work of the international conference Anatolia-the Caucasus-Iran was conducted in 22 sections. 

    Guests and participants were greeted by RAU rector, professor Armen Darbinyan, who emphasized the scale of the event and the significance of the selected topic. The conference was opened by a renowned scientist of Caucasian studies, professor Jost Gippert (Goethe University Frankfurt am Main). His report was dedicated to the relevant problems of Caucasian Albania. Another key report was made by Director of RAU Institute of Oriental Studies, professor Garnik Asatryan: he presented the draft of the Great Etymological Dictionary of the Persian language. 

    It should be noted that conferences of this level and scale, regularly organized by RAU Institute of Oriental Studies, serve as the confirmation of the high international status of RAU Institute of Oriental Studies and its integration into global science.
