A master class on Chinese calligraphy was held at the RAU Center for Chinese Language and Culture, dedicated to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the PRC on October 2. Lecturer of the RAU Center for Chinese Language and Culture Wang Pengjie demonstrated her mastery of Chinese calligraphy, told the attendees how rice paper is made, and showed how ink was ground in an inkwell in ancient times.
"Chinese calligraphy is five thousand years old, and it has always reflected the spiritual state of Chinese society. This is the essence of Chinese culture and a source of pride for the Chinese," shared Director of the Center Naira Grigoryan.
Today, interest in Chinese calligraphy and painting is growing all over the world. In China, great importance has always been attached to the ability to use a brush. "The Four Jewels of a Scholar" is what the essential items of an educated person in China are called: a brush, paper, ink, and an inkwell.
The participants of the event learned to write the characters Happiness 福 and Love 爱 in different calligraphy styles.
