RAU Hosts International Discussion Platform on AI and the Future of the Global Economy

The event brought together leading experts, researchers, university faculty, and representatives of the public and private sectors to explore AI’s impact on economic and financial systems, human capital, and the labor market.

On October 12, the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) launched the International Scientific and Practical Discussion Platform “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of the Global Economy: Trends and Development Prospects.” The event brought together leading experts, researchers, university faculty, and representatives of the public and private sectors to explore AI’s impact on economic and financial systems, human capital, and the labor market.

RAU Rector, Professor Edward Sandoyan, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the importance of examining the impact of AI, digitalization, and technological innovation on economic processes, national economies, and public administration.

Professor Mariam Voskanyan, Head of RAU’s Department of Economics and Finance, highlighted a key question: will emerging technologies drive substantial economic growth or deepen technological dependence? She stressed the need to assess both the opportunities and long-term risks associated with innovation.

Alexander Shirov, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Director of the Institute of Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, emphasized that technological innovation alone cannot ensure competitiveness without a strong industrial base and a sustainable real sector.

The plenary session also featured representatives of Armenia’s public sector and business community, including Avag Avanesyan, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia; Tigran Gasparyan, Deputy Minister of Economy; David Tavadyan, Chairman of the State Property Management Committee; and Tigran Jrbashyan, Partner and Director of Management Consulting at Ameria CJSC.

Speaking about the practical benefits of AI, Avag Avanesyan noted that the technology enables the real-time analysis of millions of financial transactions, helping identify irregularities that may go undetected during traditional audits. He also expressed optimism about Armenia’s development prospects as the country adapts to emerging technologies.

Following the plenary session, the program will continue with thematic panels exploring AI as a driver of the future economy, its implications for financial systems, new perspectives in economic science, and its impact on human capital and the labor market.

The event is organized by RAU’s Department of Economics and Finance at the Institute of Economics and Business.
