RAU Student Hrachya Sahakyan Won the International Olympiad in Private Law

The Olympiad brought together more than 700 students from 60 different universities.

Hrachya Sahakyan, a third-year student of Legal Studies at the Institute of Law and Politics of RAU, took first place following the results of the International Olympiad in Private Law.
The International Olympiad in Private Law was organized by the International League of Lawyers in an online format on February 2. The Olympiad brought together more than 700 students from 60 different universities. The competitive task included both the theoretical part in the form of an open question and the practical component of a task.

"The contestants were given the case summary and several accompanying questions. Moreover, the questions concerned both the case and the theory of civil law in general. It was necessary to solve as many tasks as possible, and not to concentrate on one only. In particular, issues related to indemnification were raised. This is a topic that interests me very much," Grachya shared.

The work was evaluated by the organizing committee of the Olympiad represented by leading experts in this field. As the organizers emphasized, RAU student G. Sahakyan presented a strong position which had a certain context in the solution. Moreover, the analysis of evidence, reflections and understanding was supported by many  relevant details."

"To correctly assess legal situations and competently express my thoughts I studied under best RAU teachers. And I am especially grateful to Marianna Kalashyan, Director of the IPP RAU. Now I am finally convinced of the correct approach of teaching at our university. Certainly, it was nice to get objective evidence of the competitiveness of my own skills, both professional and soft," Hrachya added.

Speaking about the private law system, Hrachya Sahakyan highlighted that the practical scope of his interests was closely connected with entrepreneurial activity (advocacy) and covered most of the everyday spheres of legal relations: "Among the problems that I notice at this stage of development, I would note the very rapid development of technocracy (the world of cryptocurrencies, metaverses, NFT, etc.) and no less slow development of civil law regulations in this area."

It should be noted that following the results of the International Olympiad in Private Law, Hrachya Sahakyan received a winner's diploma.
