International Conference “Russian Literature in a Changing World” Opens at RAU
Over the course of two days, participants will present more than 50 papers and discuss key issues in the poetics and interpretation of literary texts, cultural memory, literary translation and more.
The annual international scientific conference “Russian Literature in a Changing World” opened at the Russian-Armenian University on October 15.
The conference has brought together researchers, academics, and young scholars from Armenia, Russia, China, and several CIS countries. Over the course of two days, participants will present more than 50 papers and discuss key issues in the poetics and interpretation of literary texts, cultural memory, literary translation, intercultural relations, and current trends in contemporary literature.
The conference opened with a plenary session, during which participants addressed cultural identity and memory in the poetry of the Russian diaspora, the archival dimension of contemporary Russian literature, and the challenges of translating Armenian literary fairy tales, including the representation of gender in translation.
In addition to the thematic sessions, the program features a roundtable discussion entitled “The Semantics of Historical and Cultural Context in Literary Works” and a commemorative tribute entitled “Dmitry Sergeyevich Likhachev: Armenian Notes.”
The papers cover a wide range of topics, from Russian classical literature to contemporary prose and poetry, and from Armenian translations of Russian literature to Russian-Chinese literary connections. Participants will also explore the construction of literary imagery, the transformation of cultural memory, the historical and cultural contexts of literary works, and the interaction between literature and other art forms.
The international conference “Russian Literature in a Changing World” provides a platform for professional dialogue and the exchange of research experience, fostering international academic cooperation and encouraging new perspectives on Russian literature in the context of a changing world.
The event is organized by the Department of Russian and World Literature and Culture of RAU’s Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication. Following the conference, a group of students, faculty members, and guests will take part in an off-site Tsvetaeva Bonfire, another RAU tradition celebrating Russian literature and culture.
