RAU Celebrates Translators’ Day

The event brought together RAU students interested in translation, linguistics, and philology.

On October 13, the Russian Studies Center of the Russian-Armenian University hosted an event dedicated to Translators’ Day. Organized by RAU’s Department of Russian Language and Professional Communication at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication, the event was held for the fourth time and focused this year on translation in the age of artificial intelligence.

The event explored the relationship between professional expertise, creativity, and modern technologies in translation, as well as the opportunities and limitations of artificial intelligence.

During the practical session, participants compared a human translation of Paruyr Sevak’s poem You with a version generated by AI, discussing the accuracy of conveying meaning, poetic imagery, and tone.

The program also featured a lecture entitled Translation Studies: Enduring Issues and New Challenges, which addressed the changing role of translators, the capabilities of machine translation, and the challenges of intercultural communication.

The event brought together RAU students interested in translation, linguistics, and philology, providing a platform for dialogue on the interaction between language, culture, and modern technologies. It highlighted the essential role of human creativity, professional responsibility, and human understanding in translation and intercultural communication.
