RAU and MPGU are launching enhanced cooperation: outcomes of the IV International Conference "Media-2024: Theory and Practice"

Head of RAU Department of Journalism Marina Alekyan spoke at the International Conference "Media 2024: Theory and Practice" in Moscow

Head of the Department of Journalism of the Russian-Armenian University, PhD in Philology and Associate Professor Marina Alekyan delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference "Media-2024: Theory and Practice". The conference took place at the Institute of Journalism, Communications and Media Education of Moscow Pedagogical State University on March 1.

The forum attendees and speakers came from a wide range of locations. Participants represented not only Russian cities: among the speakers were researchers from Indonesia, the USA, Germany, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and other countries.

Head of the V. A. Slavina Department of Journalism and Media Communications named after , PhD in Philology and Associate Professor Elena Zubarkina served as the moderator of the plenary session. It was with her that agreements were reached on establishing and enhancing cooperation across a wide range of areas, particularly in radio journalism.

Elena Zubarkina emphasized the significance of the participation of her colleague from Armenia, expressed special gratitude for her attention to the conference and also voiced hope for further collaboration.

‘In our times, media education issues are becoming particularly relevant. And it's not just about the negative trends associated with the image of the profession of a journalist, but primarily about the far from exaggerated problem of the dominance of a crafts-like approach to the profession, the growth of amateurism and, as a result, the decline in the quality of media activity. Such forums are an excellent opportunity to scientifically comprehend these issues, discuss solutions to many pressing problems and influence the humanitarian, socio-political and even economic agendas of states. In this sense, the Department of Journalism of the Russian-Armenian University and the Department of Journalism and Media Communications of MPGU are launching a new stage of cooperation, aiming at strengthening the media education systems of both countries through effective collaboration between our universities.’ - stated Marina Alekyan.

Director of the Institute of Journalism, Communications, and Media Education and Doctor of Pedagogy Tatiana Vladimirova wished all conference participants engaging presentations and fruitful exchange of scientific and practical experience.

Within the plenary session featuring presentations on topics concerning the issues and challenges of the modern media space, leading theorists and practitioners in the field of journalism delivered speeches. The research topics encompassed issues such as the information war against Russia in Western media, the topic of artificial intelligence and neural networks in media work and media communication spheres, problems of competency-based approaches in journalism training practice and much more.

The conference focused on 16 sections. Experts delved into various contemporary media space topics including innovations in journalism education, different aspects of information wars, issues in media art, media culture, media ethics, language and speech in the modern media environment, problems of fake news, educational and educational content on radio and television as well as in podcasting and more.

It is important to emphasize that lively discussions of any presentations at the conference always indicate their high scientific potential.

In summing up the conference’s results, participants highlighted the high level of preparation and event organization. Following the conference, a collection of articles will be published.
