RAU Expands Support Measures for Scientific Research and Innovation
The legal and organizational framework for launching these new mechanisms is based on two documents: the Regulations on the Competition for Research and Development Projects and the Regulations on Measures to Promote Publication Activity and Reward Academic Staff.
The Russian-Armenian University (RAU) is actively developing its system of support for scientific research and innovation in line with the University Development Programme for 2026–2030. All key initiatives are being implemented with financial support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
The legal and organizational framework for launching these new mechanisms is based on two documents: the Regulations on the Competition for Research and Development Projects and the Regulations on Measures to Promote Publication Activity and Reward Academic Staff.
An important step in the development of the University’s research sector was the competitive selection of research projects in the natural sciences and the social sciences and humanities. Following the selection process, the University began funding 13 of the most promising research projects in 2026 through the Development Programme.
As Pargev Avetisyan, Vice-Rector for Science at the Russian-Armenian University, emphasized, this approach makes it possible to effectively advance key research areas.
“We held a competition and selected research projects in both the natural sciences and the social sciences and humanities. Funding the 13 winning projects through the Development Programme is a practical tool that helps maintain the high academic standards of our researchers and generate new scientific results,” he noted.
At the same time, the University continues to support its staff through a differentiated remuneration system. Faculty members and researchers who achieve the highest results and rankings in research receive individual salary supplements. This programme is expanding significantly: whereas 20 staff members received increased remuneration last year, the number has risen to 30 this year.
“These measures undoubtedly introduce a new dimension and accelerate the development of the University’s research and innovation activities. We can see how financial support and clear evaluation criteria are increasing our researchers’ engagement in the research process,” the Vice-Rector said, commenting on the comprehensive changes taking place in the University’s research sector.
It should be noted that the Russian-Armenian University is consistently implementing a strategy to strengthen its research capacity. Supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the RAU Development Programme for 2026–2030 aims to reinforce the University’s position as a leading academic and innovation centre in the region.
In parallel, various research projects continue to be implemented through core thematic and targeted funding, as well as through the budget of the Republic of Armenia under various competitions organized by the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
