A Dissertation Council on semiconductor physics opened at RAU

The establishment of the Dissertation Council on semiconductor physics at RAU opens up broad prospects for the university

In accordance with the order of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Armenia, a dissertation council on semiconductor physics has been opened at the Russian-Armenian University. The Council will organize the defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations in "Semiconductor Physics" .

The Dissertation Council was headed by Professor Hayk Sargsyan, Ph.D., Director of Engineering Physics Institute at RAU; Karen Gambaryan, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Semiconductor Physics of YSU, became a deputy chairman, and David Hayrapetyan, Ph.D., Head of the Department of General Physics and Quantum Nanostructures of Engineering Physics Institute at RAU, became the science secretary. The council consists of scientists with significant experience in academic and teaching  and expertise of scientific papers, including 6 full-time university Doctors of Science in the Dissertation Council and 2 candidates of sciences. The idea of opening the council originally belonged to Academician Eduard Kazaryan, leader of the scientific school of physics. It should be particularly marked that the current council includes Dmitry Firsov, Vadim Shalygin and Associate Professor Maxim Vinichenko, colleagues from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

As Professor Hayk Sargsyan highlighted, the establishment of the Dissertation Council on semiconductor physics at RAU opens up broad prospects for the university related to providing both the university and the country as a whole with highly qualified scientific staff and increasing the competitiveness of engineering and physics education. In addition, it has become possible to ensure the continuity of scientific staff and to significantly improve the efficiency of scientific schools.

In the nearest future, the pre-defense of dissertations will start at Russian-Armenian University, and within 3 months the first dissertation defense for the degree of candidate of physics and mathematical sciences will take place.
