Lecturers of the RAU Institute of Law spoke at the International Conference of the EAEU Court

The conference brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of the administrations of the Presidents of EAEU member states, the Union's supreme courts, authorized bodies empowered to refer cases to the Court, national antimonopoly and customs authorities, academic circles, and practicing lawyers.

On November 21-22, 2024, the VII International Conference of the Court of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) titled “Ten Years of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union: Ensuring Uniform Application of EAEU Law” was held in Minsk.

The conference brought together a wide range of participants, including representatives of the administrations of the Presidents of EAEU member states, the Union's supreme courts, authorized bodies empowered to refer cases to the Court, national antimonopoly and customs authorities, academic circles, and practicing lawyers.

The conference was opened by A.A. Dronov, Chairman of the EAEU Court, who highlighted its importance as a platform for discussing pressing issues of Eurasian legal order. He presented statistical data on the Court’s work, identified emerging trends in law enforcement, outlined challenges, and discussed efforts to improve Union law, including expanding the Court's jurisdiction.

The first day included a plenary session on general issues of Union law and two sessions: "The Union Court and International Justice Bodies" and "Customs Regulation and Internal Market Development of the Union." RAU representatives, Yury Airapetyan and Volodya Oganesyan, actively participated in plenary sessions, section discussions, and debates.

On the second day, November 22, 2024, the focus shifted to the application of EAEU law in national legal practice. Yury Airapetyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law at RAU, delivered a report titled “Competition and Consensus in the Context of Cooperation between the Union Court and National Courts of EAEU Member States.” The report presented proposals aimed at achieving a unified approach among all supreme courts to address concerns about national courts’ independence, a crucial step for the EAEU Court to become a fully functional judicial body of the Union.

“Such significant and large-scale academic events, in addition to their undeniable benefits, enable the EAEU Court to serve as a legal bridge for promoting Eurasian legal values and establishing long-term collaborations with representatives of the Eurasian legal community, government officials, and academic institutions. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to RAU Rector E.M. Sandoyan and Director of the Institute of Law M.A. Kalashyan for the opportunity to participate in the conference,” noted Yury Airapetyan.

It should be noted that following the results of the conference it is planned to publish a collection of reports.
